My first product in the collection Peaceful the lantern Night.
Night is handmade, made out of high quality bamboo that have been treated in water for 6 months and dried for 1 month to become stronger, this is needed since the lantern is foldable and the bamboo needs to be able to bend without breaking. The frame is made by bamboo, wood and steel and it is dressed in a shirred tulle fabric that is removable.
I work closely with my producer in the village Cam Thanh just outside Hoi An, in the centre of Vietnam. A family who have been working in bamboo for generations.
Hoi An means “Peaceful meeting place” and was once South-East Asia’s most important trading port. Today it is recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its exceptionally well preserved example of that time.
The lanterns are decorating every corner of Hoi An. I want to bring You a piece of this beautiful Hoi An icon mixed with my Scandinavian design heritage.
Let Night shine over you.

Size: Diam 30 cm, height 65 cm incl. tassel, 43 cm excl. tassel
For indoor use.
Lampbulb and cord not included.
The lampshade is foldable which makes it easy to transport. However we recommend that once you unfolded it you try not to fold it too many times after this, since the latching at the top is made of wood and can be worn out.
You can also find the lanterns in these shops in Sweden:
Karlstads museum, Sandgrundsudden Karlstad
Hermia Belysning, Töreboda
Iris & Doris, Karlstad
Mooi antik & inredning, Lyrestad

The founder of Form - a nomad design studio is me Elin
Josefine Olsson, I set up the studio the summer 2014 in Vietnam. I am a
Swedish designer who studied at Central Saint Martins, University of
the Arts London. I have been living in Vietnam since October 2012.
During my last year in university I wrote a Manifesto which goes something like this:
My aim is to work with art and design in developing countries together with local craftsman, making objects for a contemporary audience, by finding inspiration in other cultures and their history.
This is still my core reason to be here and the reason I started Form – a nomad design studio. I want to bring you a piece of the soul of the place where we are operating, produced by people I know in a way I know. I want you as a customer to be sure that your product comes from "good hands".
